As ausual innovation can be incremental, disruptive, or comprehensive. This means kinds of possible future for the internet, supported by three "shools":
Incremental: Internet continuation
This school supposes that post-IP networks will be IP compatible.
Disruptive: New conceptions
Another school has the "clean slate" approach. Its most advanced conceptions are:
- virtualization : every network equipment, including routers, firewalls, blackboxes are virtualized.
- autonomy: the target is an automated supervision and control.
- strong security: every client is authenticated without disclosing their identity.
- preponderent use of hetrzian bandwidth with cognitive radio and intelligent entenas ;
- semantic contronl: depending on semantics, flows are handled in specific ways.
- intelligence: every equipment is agent driven and can take local decizion and inform their neighbours.
